Joshua
Company Director
I started my career in medicine 5 years ago as a first aider for a private ambulance service. I knew quickly that medicine was for me, because whenever I had treated a patient, I felt fulfilled knowing I had done my utmost to help them. I was also drawn to medicine through my parents, who have both been in the ambulance service for many years. I would always be taken along to first responder training that they taught, where at a young age I learnt very valuable lifelong first aid skills.
I have spent the last couple of years working in multiple different areas in medicine including A&E, high dependency transfers, and urgent falls teams.
I have also taken part in various fundraising activities for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
I’m currently booked onto a training course to be able to teach first aid related courses, which is something I am greatly looking forward to.
Vanessa
Senior Paramedic
I have always wanted to pursue a career in medicine. From a very young age I would watch medical programmes and went on to join the Red Cross as a cadet. I later became a voluntary first responder for the ambulance service, which cemented for me the need to help people at their most vulnerable time.
I joined the ambulance service in 2008 and worked as an EMT for 3 years. I then studied for my paramedics qualification at UEA whilst working full time.
Since qualifying as a paramedic, I have continued to practice in many areas including front line emergency care, primary/urgent care for GP services, A&E departments, and within the Covid vaccination service. I am also a qualified operational commander and a trainer and assessor.
I enjoy teaching and mentoring others as I feel imparting experience based knowledge is invaluable.
Ian
First Aid Trainer
I began my career in the ambulance service as a patient transport assistant in 1982 working for what was then Essex Ambulance Service. I then moved to front line services in 1984 and was based in Harlow, Stansted and Saffron Walden. During my time here I became a union representative alongside my frontline duties and was heavily involved in the implementation of agenda for change for the ambulance service.
In 2003 I moved to Norfolk and transferred to Thetford ambulance station where I spent the remainder of my front line NHS career. I have throughout my career fulfilled many roles including front line services, patient transport, 999 call handling and training community first responders.
Since retiring from the NHS in 2013, I have continued to work for multiple private ambulance companies providing cover at a wide variety of events. I have also been heavily involved in providing first aid training for people which is an area I very much enjoy.
